Altair Press was founded by author and publisher Ian Welland with a clear mission: to publish high quality books tailored to a specific audience and community.

As a self-publishing author, Ian wanted to bypass the traditional publishing route, with its reliance on agents, editorial control, and inflexible deadlines, in favour of a more independent, hands on approach. But he also knew that doing so didn’t mean compromising on quality.

From the outset, Ian recognised that if his books were to succeed, the production had to match the standards of any mainstream publisher. That meant partnering with a print and design supplier who shared his commitment to detail, consistency, and craftsmanship.
